Chemical Peels are a non-surgical procedure where a combination of caustic chemicals are applied to the skin, removing imperfections such as light scarring, unequal facial pigmentation and fine lines.

Chemical Peels can be an attractive alternative to surgical procedures as they are faster to perform, have a comparatively fast healing rate if the procedure is carried out safely and effectively, and produce visible improvements fast. 

Potential complications include scarring from burning if the procedure is carried out badly, or uneven improvement in skin tone.  These can be avoided by ensuring your practitioner is qualified and experienced in performing chemical peels, and being realistic about your own expectations.  The results of a peel will depend to some extent on the condition of your skin prior to the procedure.  If you have exceptionally sensitive skin or have experienced adverse reactions to topical chemical preparations in the past, you should perhaps reconsider your suitability for a chemical peel.
