Ultrasonic-assisted Liposuction (UAL)

Ultrasonic-assisted Liposuction utilises sound waves and ultrasound within the liposuction process.  Alike to Laser Liposuction, Ultrasonic uses energy to break down the fat cells within the area being treated.  High-pitched sound energy liquefies the cells so making them a lot easier to remove using a cannula.  It could be viewed as the next step from Power-Assisted Liposuction, often the ultrasonic devise is fitted to the end of a cannula in much the same way as the vibrating applications are in PAL.  However, unlike other forms of liposuction, UAL can be used for patients who are overweight and want a dramatic amount of fat removed.  This is due to the effect it can have on the skin, often helping to tighten skin which had previously lost its elasticity.  There have also been reports of UAL helping to reduce cellulite after the surgery.

External UAL is no longer deemed a safe form of surgery, as severe scarring from the equipment among other problems were noted.  Nowadays the ultrasonic probe is used internally, with new methods to prevent burns.
