Dental veneers (sometimes called, porcelain veneers or laminates) are a type of dental restoration which is bonded to the front of your teeth to help improve tooth appearance. The veneers themselves are slim shells which can be created from a number of materials and can help improve the appearance of teeth which have deteriorated for a wide range of reasons. In many cases, teeth which have become stained can not be restored to their natural colour through teeth whitening and so veneers can be used to cover the affected teeth and provide a simple alternative to tooth whitening.

Da Vinci veneers are amongst the most popular types of ceramic veneers and have been in use for over a quarter of a century. Da Vinci veneers are a specialised type of veneer which have to be custom made in the Da Vinci laboratory in the United States. The veneer itself is an ultra-slim shell of ceramic which has custom colours and shades applied to help it mimic the appearance of your natural teeth. Da Vinci veneers are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth and provide a great solution from repairing chips, hiding stains and closing any gaps between teeth.

Fitting Da Vinci Veneers

There are three main stages to the fitting of Da Vinci veneers. During the first stage your dentist will plan your treatment and talk to you about the requirements for the procedure and also what cosmetic changes you are seeking from the treatment. Your dentist should take you through the procedure itself and in some cases, a digital preview of what your teeth will look like after the procedure is available.

During the second phase your dentist will prepare your teeth for the procedure, which should take around an hour or two. Your dentist will begin by buffing your teeth so that a tiny amount of tooth surface is removed to accommodate the veneer. An impression of your teeth is then taken using a specialised dental putty which is then sent to the Da Vinci laboratory where your veneers are designed and made. As this process can take a couple of weeks, you will usually be fitted with a temporary veneer until the Da Vinci veneers are ready to be fitted.

The final stage of the process is the fitting itself. To start, your dentist will give your new veneers a thorough check to see if the colour and fit are correct. If any alterations are required then your dentist can perform them then and there. Your dentist will then choose a shade of dental cement which fits with the colour of your veneers and using this, fix the veneers in place with a special light source which will cause the cement to harden.
