The recession has still left laser hair removal buoyant

26th December 2009

It appears that despite the recession, which we are still seeing the effects of, people are still keen to get rid of any unwanted hair. The survey was conducted with the laser manufacturer, Cynosure, who said that nearly two-thirds of their laser hair removal clinics didn’t feel as though their business had been damaged by the recent economical crisis. With nine out of ten of them seeing a “bright future” ahead of them.

This isn’t to say that there has been no effect on their clinics, but the effects are small compared to what one might assume. Only half of their clinics believed they had seen a small change, with a further quarter suggesting there had been no change at all. When asked why they believe this is the case, nearly 50% of the clinics suggested it was due to laser hair removal’s long-term effects. Therefore suggesting that laser hair removal is a long-term investment despite our tightened wallets.

The worrying factor to this news would be the recent concern over people avoiding having eye tests in order to save money; even at the cost of their eyes. However, people still seem ready to splash out when it comes to cosmetics, which begs the question, what price are we paying for our vanity? This is added to with the marketing manager of Cynosure, Karen Tipping’s comment that due to their industry’s buoyancy, it provides a “beacon” to the other industries within the cosmetic surgery market. At what point did we stop looking after our most important natural organs to save for a new image?
