What is the Aftercare following Laser Hair Removal?

In terms of post-treatment, very little in the way of aftercare is needed following laser hair removal. However, sun exposure should continue to be avoided for a number of weeks. As a further precaution, it is advisable to wear sunscreen in the affected area for 48 hours after treatment. While laser hair removal is often viewed as painless, some patients have compared the sensation to an elastic band snapping at the skin. Mild discomfort therefore should be expected and this may still be felt for a short period after the procedure. Redness and swelling in the affected area is common and can be relieved with cooling creams or painkillers. Generally, these symptoms should not concern the patient and will resolve themselves within a few days. If they persist however, it is recommended that the laser hair clinic is contacted for further advice.
