Triadene Contraceptive Pill

Bayer manufactured a brand of contraceptive pill called Triadene. It is a very effective form of contraception and it is known as the combined contraceptive pill because it contains two hormones. These hormones are derivatives of the two naturally occurring hormones oestrogen and progestogen that control your menstrual cycle. The pill prevents pregnancy by altering the levels of these hormones in the blood.

This pill is a triphasic pill. Each strip contains 21 pills and within each strip, there are 3 different types of pill, each with varying amounts of the hormones. There is 30 micrograms of ethinylestradiol and 50 micrograms of gestodene in the six beige tablets, in the five dark brown tablets there is 40 micrograms of ethinylestradiol and 70 micrograms of gestodene and the ten white tablets contain 30 micrograms of ethinylestradiol and 100 micrograms of gestodene. These doses are low dose forms and there are varying amounts of hormones to mimic your natural cycle so that you do not experience as many side effects.

Triadene is a 21-day pill so you take a pill every day for 21 days and then you have a seven-day break. During this break, you experience a withdrawal bleed, which is very similar to that of a period. The pill can make the withdrawal bleed a lot shorter and lighter than a normal period and it can regulate them. When you have finished the break, you then start a new strip on the eighth pill free day in order to be protected from pregnancy.

The pill is a very effective method of contraception and if used correctly it is extremely reliable, hence why it is such a popular choice of contraception. It is very discrete and it will not interfere with sex. It also has the added bonus of helping regulate periods so that you know exactly when your period will be and it can also relieve pre menstrual symptoms because it makes the bleeds lighter and shorter. However, the major downfall of the contraceptive pill is that it will not protect you from any sexually transmitted infections as only a condom can do that.

Each pill contains a certain amount of the two hormones and a number of inactive ingredients. These ingredients include calcium disodium edetate, lactose, maize starch, sucrose, calcium carbonate, povidone, montan glycol wax and magnesium stearate.
