Can I have Medical Abortion Treatment, if I take Medication?

The medical abortion methods both early and late involve you taking drugs that cause your body to reject the pregnancy and discard the contents of your womb a bit like a miscarriage. While these drugs are very well renowned for their effectiveness there are some occasions where they can’t be used. For example there are certain factors that mean you may not be eligible for treatment this way.

These factors are: · 35 years old/older and smoke · Ectopic pregnancy · History of heart disease · History of high blood pressure · History of liver disease · History of kidney disease · Take long term anti-corticosteroids · If you have an IUD · Adrenal failure · Hemorrhagic disease · Porphyria · Taking anti-coagulants · Poorly controlled Inflammatory bowel disease

If you do take medication you may not be able to have a medical abortion. You are best to check with the abortion clinic and talk through your options.
