Is it possible to get an Abortion after the First Trimester?

Your pregnancy is calculated from the first day of your last period to the 40th week from that date and is split into three time periods called trimesters. Trimester one is calculated from the first day of your last period up to 12 weeks, trimester two up to 26 weeks and trimester three up to 40 weeks or birth.

Under the abortion Act 1964 you can have an abortion up to 24 weeks into your pregnancy which means that you can have an abortion past the first trimester and most of the way through the second trimester. Sometimes, under exceptional circumstances, you can have an abortion in trimester three but this is very rare.
