Atkins & Medical Conditions

Atkins and Kidney Disease

If you suffer from kidney disease then you must check with your doctor before commencing any radical alteration in diet, particularly if you are considering going on the Atkins diet. It is very unlikely that a doctor would recommend or approve going on the Atkins diet however. Due to the very high protein content of the Atkins diet, the kidneys are strained more than by following other nutritional plans. If your doctor does agree to support your decision to go on the Atkins diet, they may insist that you modify the typical meal plans suggested by Dr Atkins. In this way you may be able to monitor your protein intake and try and see if any substitutes are possible.

Atkins and Dietary Conditions and Requirements

When making any radical changes to your diet or lifestyle it is advisable to seek medical advice first. If you are considering changing to the Atkins diet and you have any dietary conditions or requirements then it is best to go and see your doctor and/or nutritionist before doing so. They will be able to give you their recommendations and advice on how best to proceed. A good nutritionist should be able to sit down with you and create sample meal plans which are compatible with the Atkins diet, depending on your allergies or dietary requirements. If this proves difficult, or if doing so could have a negative impact on your health, then you may want to rethink your decision to go on the Atkins diet. If is the case, discuss the options with the nutritionist in order to choose the best diet plan for you.
