The first thing you might notice is feeling sick as a result of the general anaesthetic. Once the effects of the anesthetic has worn off you may experience some discomfort and soreness around your stomach area. The area needs to heal and this will take several weeks. Dissolvable stitches will disappear in around 7-10 days, you will need to keep the area clean and not itch, scratch the area. Medical staff should give you some advice about caring for your healing wounds before you go home and give you a date for a follow-up appointment. Non-dissolvable stitches are usually removed about a week after surgery and skin staples are usually removed approximately 12-14 days after surgery.
