Preparing for Breast Enlargement (Breast Implants)

The prospect of achieving your new look with the help of breast enlargement surgery may sound exciting, but it won’t be realised by the hands of the surgeon alone – you must also be willing to play your part.

If you have met the criteria to be a suitable candidate, then you’re likely to be in good health already. But don’t rest on your laurels. For women marginally overweight, it is a good idea to lose it before the date of the surgery and if you smoke, it is strongly recommended you stop for at least two weeks prior to the operation and for two weeks afterwards to reduce the risk of chest infections and prolonged scarring. Some surgeons might ask you to give up the habit permanently.

Eat as healthily as possible in the run up to the surgery, but you will have to fast for at least six hours before it. Don’t forget to inform the clinic of any medicine you take, even if it is non-prescription.

Bring toiletries, a nightdress and a special supporting bra (the surgeon or nurse counselor will advise you on this in the initial consultation) with you to the clinic.

Routine tasks such as checking blood pressure and taking urine samples are likely to be carried out. The surgeon may also ask to take before and after pictures of your breasts.

The procedure itself will be performed under anesthetic. Try not to stress yourself out about the procedure. The more organised you are the less strain you’ll feel and you can focus your attention on the surgery and getting better during the recovery period. Book at least a week off work, and if you have small children, arrange for someone to look after them. You should be able to resume basic activities such as walking short distances, although it is best not to leave the house, within a couple of days. But for housework, driving and other strenuous tasks you need assistance so arrange for a friend or relative to stay with you for at least a few days after the surgery.
