Yasmin Contraceptive Pill

Yasmin is a brand of combined contraceptive pill that is manufactured by Bayer. It contains two hormones ethinylestradiol and drospirenone, which are derivatives of oestrogen and progestogen. Together, these two hormones are effective at preventing pregnancy because they can control the menstrual cycle.

This contraceptive pill is a monophasic pill so every pill contains the same amount of hormones within it. There is 0.03milligrams of ethinylestradiol, which is the oestrogen derivative and 3 milligrams of drospirenone, which is the progestogen derivative. These hormones prevent pregnancy by stopping an egg from being released, thickening the mucous fluid and thinning the uterus wall.

The pill is a 21-day pill so each pack contains this amount of pills. There is one strip per cycle so you take one pill every day at the same time until you have finished the strip. When you have done so, you then take a seven-day pill free break so that your body can have a withdrawal bleed. You then start a new strip on the eighth pill free day and the cycle repeats. It is important that you use the pill correctly otherwise you will not be fully protected from pregnancy.

Yasmin is a very effective method of contraception. It is very reliable when used correctly but can easily be reversed so if you want to have a baby, all you need to do is stop taking it.
