There are a number of options for Indian dentists who wish to specialise in a certain area of dentistry. Firstly there is the Master of Dental Surgery (M.D.S.) degree, given by the Dental Council of India (DCI) along the same lines of the B.D.S., only specialised in a particular facet of dentistry. Especially relevant to patients seeking cosmetic dentistry are degrees available from a number of institutions, which specialise in dental implantology (hence India’s renown for its specialised implantologists) and aesthetic dentistry. There are also other courses that the dentists can take at various institutions across India, and some may have received additional training abroad. If the dentist did not train for his or her speciality with the DCI, you must first find out where they got the degree from, and then ratify it against the organisation’s records.
