Immune System

This is the body’s natural system for fighting off all sorts of diseases and illnesses. The immune system is made up of various tissue and organs within the body that are able to determine whether or not there is a threat to the body due to a foreign substance or organism.  Organs such as the spleen, lymph nodes and even the bone marrow are able to recognise anything that is introduced into the body that should not be there. Once a foreign substance is detected, the immune system will spring into action. Mast cells will be prompted to release large amounts of histamine in order to try and fend off the foreign substance (termed allergen).
