Herbal Remedies for Allergy Relief

Various remedies are available at health food stores. The best idea is probably to either speak to your allergist or just to go into your local health-food shop and speak to the member of staff about what they recommend that they sell to alleviate your symptoms.

For respiratory symptoms

For nasal congestion and general wellbeing many people find herbal teas to be very effective. Many stores stock teas specifically targeted to reduce respiratory congestion. Similarly, to relieve sinus congestion, products with nettle in them are helpful. Ephedra and eucalyptus are also good for treating or reducing respiratory symptoms.

General supplements and helpful tips

A flavonoid supplement can also minimise the symptoms of an allergic reaction. Chamomile tends to be good to reduce hay fever-like symptoms, therefore having a cup of chamomile tea can reduce the length of an attack. Eyebright is also useful in reducing discomfort during a hay fever reaction.

Some substances are helpful in decreasing inflammation such as ginger, liquorice root and, as previously mentioned, nettle. Taking any products with these in can therefore help relieve allergy symptoms such as swelling and soreness. Your local health food shop should have a selection of teas, for example, which contain these natural ingredients. If you suffer from headaches and/or sinus pain, St. John’s wort has been found to be helpful.

Rooibos is a useful general supplement to take if you suffer from allergies. It has natural antihistamine properties and so can reduce the severity or duration of your allergic reactions, usually regardless of the specific allergen that is causing them or your specific symptoms.

Homeopathic remedies

This is a form of science used to attempt to treat and cure allergic reactions in allergy sufferers naturally. Homeopathy uses natural substances to try and encourage the allergy-sufferer’s body to develop its own resistance to problem allergens and therefore almost cure itself. The advantages of this form of allergy treatment are that, being based on natural ingredients and remedies, it is obviously very safe. Homeopathy is therefore a good option for you if you are elderly, pregnant or breastfeeding. Similarly, if your baby or child is suffering from symptoms of an allergy then this is a good option.

If you are considering homeopathic treatment for your allergy or allergies it is best to consult your doctor, allergist or health food shop professional as to the best remedies for you and your symptoms.
