Does Collar Size affect Sleep Apnoea?
A larger collar size could indicate a larger risk of sleep apnoea. If you do have a large collar size then this could mean that you have more excess fatty tissue around your neck. Thus, when you lie down to sleep, this fatty tissue is affected by gravity and weighs heavily on your airways. This could then cause a blockage of your airways which can increase the chance of snoring and sleep apnoea.
However, whilst a large collar size could be a contributing factor to sleep apnoea, it does not mean that just because you have a large collar size you are going to suffer from sleep apnoea. Although, it would be recommended to monitor your sleeping patterns, and if your partner/friend comments that you are snoring, then find an effective way of monitoring your breathing during the night to ensure you are not suffering from paused breathing – sleep apnoea.
