Botox Bladder Injections for Stress Incontinence

Botulism toxin, or Botox, is highly toxic in its natural form, but when purified can be used in medical procedures to paralyse muscles. It can be injected into the walls of the bladder in order to paralyse the muscles so that they no longer contract involuntarily. The operation can be performed under either local or general anaesthetic, and the effects will take effect within a week and last for between 6 and 12 months. In some cases, further injections may be needed at this stage to prolong the effects.
