Will Drugs Affect Sleep?
Find Sleep Clinics & Specialists »
On the whole drugs will not help your sleeping pattern at all. Any drugs that contain stimulants will merely prevent you from sleeping soundly. Alcohol itself is a drug and greatly disrupts your sleeping patterns, even if you do feel as though you fall asleep quicker and remain asleep longer. Drugs will no doubt affect the quality of your sleep. Some drugs may be prescribed to you to help you sleep, and in these cases they may be beneficial for your sleeping pattern. However, it is highly recommended that you do not become reliant on drugs to help you sleep as with many drugs, your body becomes used to them and your sleep disruptions will merely recur.
Therefore, as with most things, drugs will affect your sleep, but in most cases this will not be for the better. It would be a good idea to consult your doctor if you are taking any form of medication and experiencing disrupted night’s sleep. The drug you are taking could be the root cause of your disturbed sleep and will need rectifying before your lack of sleep develops into a serious sleep problem or sleep disorder.
