How long will I need to take off work for my weight loss surgery?

It is sensible to allow at least two weeks for your time in hospital and adjusting to your surgery. Your time in hospital will vary depending on the type of procedure you are having and if you have any other health conditions or if there are any complications. The typical stay in hospital is 2-4 days. Pre-surgery you will need to spend time with your consultant discussing aspects of the procedure and having tests. The week before surgery you will need to go on a low fat, sugar and carbohydrate diet ready for the surgery. Post-surgery you may be in some pain and discomfort for the first few days as your body heals. You won’t be able to eat for some days after the surgery and you will be on a clear liquid diet at first. It is sensible to give yourself and your body to adjust to the ‘new you’.
