How old do I have to be to have an Abortion?

All women have the right to have an abortion and you can have an abortion at any age. You don’t even have to tell your parents if you are young as if your GP feels you are able to make your own decisions about your health, they can agree to it without your parents’ permission.

Making the decision to have an abortion is a very difficult and emotional one and you will always be advised to see and speak with a specialist abortion counsellor who can help you come to terms with your situation and the options available to you. They will also help you understand your emotions and feelings without judgement or pressurise you in any way.

Age does not necessarily make a difference to how an abortion will make you feel and every woman is different and feels very unique emotions.
