After Removing CFast Braces

When you have your CFast braces removed, your dentist will give your teeth a thorough clean and polish and show you your new smile. Some patients choose to have their teeth professionally whitened after treatment to give their teeth a really healthy glow. Whitening treatment may be included in orthodontic packages at some clinics, but this is not always the case.

Wearing a retainer

After treatment, it is very important to wear a retainer. A retainer is an orthodontic device, which is designed to retain the position of the teeth. There are different types of retainer, including fixed and removable appliances. Sometimes, retainers are worn all he time and in other cases, they are worn for a set period of time each day. Your dentist will discuss retainers with you when you are coming to the end of your treatment.

Retainers are not the same as braces and they are often very discreet; even the fixed retainers are usually bonded to the back of the teeth, so they cannot be seen.

It’s essential to follow your dentist’s instructions when it comes to wearing your retainer, as without the retainer, you run the risk of relapse. Relapse occurs when the teeth start to move out of position. Wearing a retainer helps to prevent this from happening and keeps your teeth perfectly aligned.

Dental visits

After your braces have been removed, your dentist organise follow-up appointments to check how you are doing and make sure that your teeth have settled and the retainer is working well.

In addition to any appointments related to your orthodontic treatment, you will also need to keep up to date with routine dental checks so that your dentist can keep an eye on your oral health.
