Harley Street Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is the reshaping of the nose for aesthetic reasons. This works by cutting incisions in the nose and then restructuring the cartilage and tissues within. It is performed under sedation or anaesthetic. There are two ways to do the operation:
Closed rhinoplasty
In this method all the incisions are made inside the nostrils in order to reshape the tip and bridge of the nose. Consequently there are no external scars. However, if the patient also wishes the size of the nostril to be reduced, then minor scarring may be visible in the furrow between the lip and the nostril.
Open rhinoplasty
Although it is again necessary to make the incisions in the nostrils, open rhinoplasty also involves an incision on the skin between the nostrils, known as the columella. This method is often preferable to surgeons as it allows greater control of the reshaping process. However, the possibility exists for additional scarring.
Risks
The use of anaesthetic can sometimes lead to adverse reactions in the patient, including bleeding and nausea. Most of the risks are extremely uncommon but are still worth contemplating. These can include a temporary loss of smell (rare) and reddening of the skin around the nose. Furthermore any swelling that occurs on or around the nose before or after the surgery can obscure any irregularities underneath, and prevent the surgeon from being able to notice and rectify these problems. In this case a second rhinoplasty may be necessary. Immediately after surgery the patient may experience breathing difficulties, and these can last up to two weeks before clearing up; they will not however prove to be permanent.
Advantages of Harley Street rhinoplasty
A rhinoplasty operation is generally performed by a plastic surgeon, otolaryngologist (head-and-neck surgeon) or maxillofacial surgeon (dealing with disease of the mouth, face and neck). Harley Street clinics offer a specialist rhinoplastic surgeon to ensure the highest quality operation is performed.
