Is there swelling after a Tummy Tuck?
Find Cosmetic Surgery Clinics »
Yes, swelling after a tummy tuck is perfectly normal and should be expected. You will be given anti-inflammatories to help you with the swelling. After your surgery the wound and areas around it will be inflamed, and you might have to wear a support garment to help with this. Excess fluid will be removed from the wound by a surgical drain that will be fitted during your surgery. This will help to reduce swelling, and needs to be removed a week after surgery. Sometimes the swelling will take weeks to reduce, and as a result you shouldn’t expect total results from your surgery straight away. It might take three months before all swelling and bruising has gone, and you can see the result of your tummy tuck.
