As with a lot of infections and illnesses, your diet and the foods that you eat can encourage or deter poor health. In the case of thrush, there are a list of certain foods that are noted to help to prevent thrush, and there are foods that are noted to contribute to the development of thrush. Although many of these are not scientifically proven , many foods have been noted by many sufferers of thrush to help or to hinder the recovery and prevention of the infection. If you are particularly prone to reoccurrences of the infection, you may wish to try some of these out.

Foods to help prevent the thrush infection

  • Fruit and vegetables – it is recommended that you eat at least 5 portions of fruit or vegetables every day. This will promote a healthy immune system and add essential minerals and vitamins to your diet.
  • Rice
  • Lentils
  • Nuts and seeds
  • White meat – this includes chicken and fish, which contain the protein your body needs to function properly.
  • Soya Milk
  • Live yogurt – the live bacteria in this kind of yogurt can also be used as a treatment to some of the more irritating symptoms of thrush.
  • Wholemeal products – wholemeal bread, pasta and rice are said to be substantially better for you and can promote a healthy digestive system.
  • Beans
  • Oats

Foods that contribute to the development of thrush

  • Tea and Coffee – excessive amounts of tea and coffee contain a lot of caffeine. Although herbal teas can be good for you, the caffeine, sugar, milk or cream that many people add to these drinks are not good contributors to a healthy diet.
  • Fizzy drinks
  • Sugar – a lot of sugar, especially if you are a diabetic, can trigger all kinds of health problems, including thrush.
  • Processed food
  • Cheese
  • Cereals
  • White flour products

Health and diet

Many people underestimate the importance of a healthy diet in keeping with a good level of health. Eating properly means that you will be consuming the right kinds of vitamins and nutrients to keep your immune system healthy, therefore increasing your natural capability to fight off infections, including the thrush infection. Making sure you exercise regularly and try to avoid excessive drinking or smoking can also contribute to the prevention of thrush, though of course, many cases of thrush are unavoidable.
