Palatal Surgery for Snoring

There are four main varieties of palatal surgery used to treat severe snoring. These are advised only for those who have tried nonsurgical remedies and alternatives, and who have been consulted and evaluated by a doctor.

Palatal surgery’s objective is to reduce the chance of the throat vibrating during sleep, and is carried out by reducing the amount of soft palate and/or removing the tonsils or the uvula if elongated or swollen. Before surgery some surgeons use a nasendoscopy to document the amount of obstruction found in the throat area, placing an endoscope into the upper airway to see where exactly the collapse is happening.
