Cerazette and Pregnancy

If you believe that you may be pregnant, you need to perform a pregnancy test and contact your doctor as soon as possible. Cerazette should not be used if you are pregnant and there is a risk that if you fall pregnant whilst using Cerazette, that you could have an ectopic pregnancy. This is a pregnancy where the foetus grows outside of the womb, in the fallopian tubes for example, and can be fatal as it can cause the tubes to rupture and you suffer excessive blood loss.

Breastfeeding and Cerazette

Cerazette does not contain oestrogen, which is the main hormone involved in reducing your milk flow when breastfeeding so you can potentially use Cerazette whilst breast-feeding. However, some of the progestogen can be passed onto your baby in the milk and so far studies have shown that it is not detrimental to the growth and development of your child. Further studies are needed to clarify this so you should always contact your doctor if you want to use Cerazette whilst you are still breast-feeding.

Starting Cerazette after birth

If you are not breast-feeding, you can start using Cerazette 21-28 days after delivery. You will be protected from pregnancy immediately in this instance. However, you can start later than this period, you will need additional protection for the next seven days.
