Femodette Contraceptive Pill

Femodette is a type of combined contraceptive pill that is manufactured by the company Bayer. It is a low dose form of the contraceptive pill but is highly effective in preventing pregnancy. It contains 75mg of gestodene and 20mg of ethinylestradiol. Both these hormones are derivatives of the natural hormones progestogen and oestrogen that control the menstrual cycle.

Femodette is classed as a 21-day pill, which means that you take a pill every day for 21 days and then have a period of seven days in which you are pill free. It is also a monophasic pill, which means that every pill in the strip contains the same level of hormones within it. These hormones act on the body to prevent pregnancy by preventing egg release, creating a mucous plug and thinning out your uterus lining. It is because of these three effects that the contraceptive pill is one of the most effective forms of contraception as it is like a back up system. If one method fails, there are still two more methods that are working to prevent you from becoming pregnant.

If used correctly, the pill is a very reliable form of contraception. It doesn’t interfere with sexual intercourse and it is a very discreet way of protecting yourself from pregnancy. It is also easily reversible as it does not affect your fertility levels and if you want to stop using it, you stop taking the cycles of pills. It can also regulate your periods as it makes them lighter and less painful as well as a shorter. Sometimes, the contraceptive pill is used solely for this purpose as it can help reduce troublesome periods and regulate the menstrual cycle.

It is important to remember that although highly effective in preventing pregnancy, Femodette, like all the other contraceptive pills, will not protect you against any sexually transmitted infections. The only method of contraception that can do so is condoms.

The pill contains the two hormones gestodene and ethinylestradiol, lactose, maize starch, magnesium stearate, calcium carbonate, talc, sucrose and polyvidone. Therefore if you have sugar intolerances you should tell your doctor before they prescribe Femodette.
