Noriday and Pregnancy

Noriday should not be used if you are pregnant Take a pregnancy test if you believe you might be pregnant and contact your doctor. If you pregnancy is confirmed, you must stop taking the pill immediately. If you use Noriday whilst you are pregnant, you increase the likelihood of having an ectopic pregnancy. This is where the egg develops outside of the womb and you will not be able to bring your baby to full term because it will eventually cause rupture of the area it is in and cause a great deal of damage to your reproductive system unless the pregnancy is found early. The foetus is also at risk of birth defects such as malformation of limbs and sometimes the heart.

If you want to try for a baby, all you need to do is stop using the contraceptive pill. When a pill is more than three hours late, you will not be protected from pregnancy so the effects of the pill are easily reversible. It is best to wait until you have had a regular period as the pill can make them irregular. This is not essential but it allows your doctor to work out when your due date will be.

You can use Noriday if you are breast-feeding as it is one of the only contraceptive pills that does not affect your milk flow. Start taking the pill 21 days after birth and onwards. You will be protected immediately if you start on the 21st day but you will need additional contraception for seven days if you start any time after this time.

If you have just had an abortion or a miscarriage, you can start taking the contraceptive pill straight away and you will be protected from pregnancy. If you are unsure about when to start taking Noriday, contact your doctor for advice.
