Forgetting Microgynon 30

If you forget to take Microgynon 30, you run the risk of falling pregnant. Any disruption to the flow of hormones at the wrong time of the cycle can increase the risk of pregnancy. Your risk of falling pregnant also depends on how many pills you have missed and how long it has been since you were supposed to take them.

If you missed one pill and it has been less than 12 hours since you have forgotten to take it, take the missed pill immediately. Continue with the cycle as normal and you should be protected from pregnancy in this instance. However, you will not be protected if it has been more than 12 hours since you were supposed to take it. You will also not be protected from pregnancy if you have missed more than one pill. In these two cases, take the last missed pill and disregard the other pills. This may mean taking more than one pill in a day but this should not cause any harm. You must continue the rest of the cycle as normal but you will need to use extra protection for seven days because you are at risk of falling pregnant.

If you have missed pills and there are more than seven days left of your cycle, follow the instructions above. If you have missed pills and there are less than seven pills left in your pack, you must follow a different set of instructions. You still should take the last missed pill and finish the pack as normal but when you get to the end of the pack; you need to start a new pack straight away. You should skip your withdrawal bleed and use a new strip. You should have a withdrawal bleed at the end of the second strip. Use extra protection for seven days after your missed pill.

If you have had unprotected sex in the time in which you missed a pill, you may be pregnant. The risk of this is high if you have missed pills at the start of the pack. If you do not have a withdrawal bleed when you are supposed to, contact your doctor for advice. Also, if you are worried because you have had unprotected sex, contact your doctor who may be able to offer you the emergency contraceptive pill.
