Using Dianette

Dianette is prescribed for skin conditions and your doctor will explain the best course of action for treatment. However, if you are also going to rely on Dianette as an effective method of contraception, it is important that you follow the instructions below on how to take the pill in order for it to be as effective as possible.

Dianette is a 21-day pill so you take a pill every day at the same time for 21 days until your current strip is finished. When starting the pill, start on the first day of your period, as you will be immediately protected from pregnancy. You can start on any other day but you will not be protected from pregnancy as the pill needs seven days in order to be effective so you will need to use extra protection during this time.

Take the pill from the bubble that has the correct day of the week above it that corresponds to the day you are on. Choose a time to take the pill that is convenient for you because you need to be able to take the pill at the same time every day in order for it to be fully effective. Some women like to set an alarm to remind them to take the pill. It is a good idea to work it into your routine, so that you do not forget to take the pill as this can reduce its effectiveness.

Follow the arrows around the pill, taking one pill a day every day until the pack is complete. Once you have finished the pack, you then have a seven-day gap where you don’t take any pills. This gap will allow your body to experience a withdrawal bleed that is very similar to a period. Most women find that their withdrawal bleed is shorter and lighter as the uterus lining is a lot thinner than it would usually be.

On the eighth pill free day, you need to start the next strip of pills. You must not forget to start of leave the pill free break any longer than seven days as you will not be protected from pregnancy. If you are relying on Dianette as a method of contraception, you must follow the above instructions. If you use Dianette in any other way you will not be protected from pregnancy.
