Alternatives to Facelift Surgery

The thought of facial surgery can be terrifying. Certainly, for many people, your face feels like it represents who you are. You’ve grown up with it and, even if it is flawed, it is still your face. Changes to the face can therefore be daunting. Not only this, but it is fundamental to communication. A slight change somewhere on the face can indicate a variety of different emotions: happiness, amusement, irritation. If your face changes in a way that cannot produce these indications, professional or personal communications may be affected.

Of course, researching well and finding a skilled, and experienced, surgeon means that risks and complications are significantly reduced, but, if you are still worried about the problems of surgery then, there are alternatives to a facelift.

Resurfacing Techniques

These procedures can smooth the skin and rid the face of wrinkles. Laser resurfacing (also known as a laser peel) is one example of a resurfacing procedure. It removes damage to outer layers of skin by removing the top layers of skin.

Dermal Fillers

These can create an easy instant effect. They plump up the skin and reduce wrinkles and smooth out the skin. Examples include Botox and Restylane.

Light and Heat Therapies

These treatments are good for improving the condition of the skin. Thermage particularly improves facial contours whilst Pulse Light Therapy is particularly good for improving the smoothness of the skin.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of needles to stimulate the nervous system. When needles are inserted into the face collagen production is triggered. This can give your face a more youthful appearance.

Beauty Treatments

Creams and lotions may be of some use in tightening the skin, but, for any real change to the face, work needs to be done under the surface of the skin.

Other Facelift Procedures

All these treatments, whilst generally successful, are not as rigorous in their improvements as a facelift can be. If you are still put off by a traditional facelift, consider other procedures. Do not forget that the mini “weekend” facelift offers similar advantages of a normal facelift but with a lot less risk. Consider this procedure carefully before ruling out all surgical facelift procedures.
