Before Hair Waxing

Prior to undergoing a waxing treatment there are several steps you can take to both decrease the pain during the procedure and improve the results.

The first thing to check is that the wax you, or the salon, is using does not contain any ingredients which you are allergic to. There are many options out on the market and so if one does not suit your skin it does not mean that you will not be able to wax. The same check should be made on any products that you will be using to prepare, soothe the skin or remove wax with. If you are undergoing the waxing at a salon you will usually be asked to declare any allergies prior to the treatment, however if this is not the case then you should enquire as to the products used.

When waxing at home the application of an oil or powder prior to applying the wax can help the wax to adhere to the skin.

As with many things practice makes perfect, and the more experienced and efficient you are the less likely you are to cause unnecessary pain. This is one reason that choosing a salon may be the best option if the cost does not prevent you from doing so. If waxing at home be sure that you are certain of the technique; holding the skin taught whilst quickly removing the strip with the other. If the area being waxed is difficult to reach then try to get some assistance rather than struggling yourself.
