Sufferers of bulimia in particular are at risk of losing their teeth. This is because of the digestive acids in the stomach that your body uses to break down food. When you vomit these acids come into the mouth and can eat away at the teeth causing cavities initially or in worse cases causing the teeth to fall out. Brushing straight after vomiting also causes fast wear to the enamel – you are scrubbing the surface when it is at its weakest. Anorexia and bulemia are also associated with low self esteem which could lead to poor oral hygiene.
